Sir Don Curry continues his support of AFCP.

Eric Wilson (Chairman) and Paul Biscoe (Chief Executive) represented AFCP at a meeting with Sir Don Curry on 28 July 2008 to report on the activities and progress that had been made with AFCP since his participation in the 2007 Conference.
Sir Don gave his views of the agricultural charity sector, indicating that

  • in combination, they present a considerable resource
  • currently they are not all well targeted
  • they often lack access to good scientists
  • they are not involved with relevant debate at national level

  • Sir Don strongly supported the AFCP's role in providing a mechanism or conduit for exchange of information to and from charities.

He also supported he proposed introduction of meetings for charities to be held regionally

Funding was discussed and the need for a small award of c£15-20k a year for 3 years was presented as a basis for establishing AFCP. It was recognised that benefits need to be seen before many of the smaller charities will pay a membership fee.
